Clark County, WA public meetings guide

Reviewed October 21, 2026 by ClarkWA.org

A calendar entry is a starting point. The agenda, meeting notice and participation instructions explain what will be discussed and how you can take part. Use this guide to prepare for County Council and Planning Commission meetings.

1. Find the body considering your topic

For council business, start with the County Council calendar and council agendas and archives. For planning discussions, check the Community Planning calendar and Planning Commission hearings and meeting notes.

Match the proposal title or project number to the agenda. If your issue concerns a city meeting, find its government through the county local-government directory; a county calendar is not a complete calendar of city business.

2. Recheck the date and notice

Open the latest council meeting information and notices before attending. Calendar placeholders, cancellations and special meetings can change the usual pattern. Confirm the date, start time, location and remote connection details for the specific meeting.

Local meeting times are Pacific time: PST in standard time and PDT during daylight saving time. When adding a meeting to your calendar, choose the Los Angeles/Pacific time zone so its seasonal offset is handled correctly.

3. Read the material and choose how to participate

Read the agenda item and any linked staff report before drafting a comment. Write down the decision you want to address, your main point and any supporting information. Follow that meeting's instructions for submission methods, deadlines, sign-up and speaking limits.

The Planning Commission distinguishes work sessions from hearings: its work sessions allow attendance but do not include spoken public comment, while hearings provide a testimony opportunity. Check the commission's current instructions before preparing an in-person or remote statement.

For council meetings, the official agenda page provides participation information. A livestream for watching may differ from the connection used to speak. Contact the listed meeting staff in advance if you need accommodations or help accessing materials.

4. Follow the item afterward

Return to the official archive for posted minutes, recordings and related documents. Note whether the item was continued and check for a later notice before assuming the discussion has finished.
